Onam, known as the harvest festival, is a popular Indian festival in Kerala. Malayalees celebrate this auspiscious holiday during the first month of Chingam, which usually falls between the months of August and September. This day commemorates the homecoming of King Mahabali.
Onam festival usually lasts for 10 days. As part of the celebration, there are different activities, customs and traditions being observed. The festival highlights are onam pookalam, onasadya, Snake boat race and magnificent performance of traditional dance. |
