Puja Pandals for Ganesh Chaturthi

Communities compete with one another to create the most beautiful pandal and sculpture of Lord Ganesha, so the features of idols and pandals vary greatly throughout the region. After a grand procession, priests install the idol into a respective pooja pandal. Devotees also dedicated their time in paying their respects to Lord Ganesha by visiting the temples of the deity. Aside from a fast that lasts one day, they offer the deity’s favorite food called modak.

Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat

Because fasting is an important ritual in the celebration, devotees observe their fast by starting the day with an early bath. After donning clean clothes, they would either go to the nearest temple or perform a small puja in the comfort of their own home. In this ceremony, they would offer their prayers to Lord Ganesa in order to attract his blessings. A special puja is conducted in temples, and they were filled not only with devotees praising the god but also the sound of holy chants, mantras, and Bhajans.

Why People Fast on Ganesh Chaturthi?

People who fast during Ganesh Chaturthi can decide either to pratice the nirjal vrat or the phalahar vrat. The nirjal vrat consists of a rigourous waterless fast, while the phalahar vrat is a restricted diet. Devotees who observe both are allowed to drink tea, coffee, and sweets such as gajak and rewari. Other forms of food are not allowed, particularly non-vegetarian food.

To stay in focus, devotees would praise Lord Ganesha by chanting mantras and singing bhajans. It is widely believed that sincere fasting during Ganesha Chaturthi will attract blessings such as wealth, health, and prosperity.
