Hats off to the traditional atmosphere in which a Keralite is being brought up, for it values relations than anything else! Onam is an inextricable part of every Keralite’s tradition. More than just a festival, Onam is an exposition of Keralites’ unwavering belief in their legendary past. Onam is conducted as homage to Mahabali who ruled our country perfectly, long long ago. Legends say that Mahabali was suppressed to ‘Paathaala’, the hell, by Vaamana, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Mahabali’s last desire was that Vishnu should grant him the privilege to revisit his subjects once in a year. And it is believed that this home coming of Mahabali is celebrated as Onam.

Onam is the secular festival of Kerala .People of all religions, castes and communities celebrate the festival with equal enthusiasm and energy. Onam is conducted in the Malayalam New Year- month of Chingam (Aug – Sep). Season and weather will be at its best during this festival which lasts for ten days. It is also the harvest festival of Kerala. Boat races, several indoor-out door games, the swing decked with flowers hanging from a high branch – Oonjal, the most delicious and sumptuous banquet- Onasadya, Onakkodi, Athappookkalam, Thiruvathirakali, Pulikali etc. are some of the note worthy aspects of Onam.

Of these, Onakkodi is of greater significance. It is the practice by which you can gift your beloved ones with new clothes, during the auspicious occasion of Onam.

Onam Offers As the, Onam is here on our thresholds!
