Here\u2019s the simple recipe for this yummy Onam dish. So let\u2019s get cookin!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>100 Grams of Yam (Chopped into small pieces)<\/li>\n<li>1 Fresh Banana<\/li>\n<li>3 pieces of Green Chilies and Red Chilies (Chopped into halves)<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd liters of Yogurt or Sour Curd<\/li>\n<li>1 cup of grated coconut<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon of mustard seeds<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon of Methi seeds<\/li>\n<li>2 teaspoon of turmeric power<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon of powdered black pepper<\/li>\n<li>Salt<\/li>\n<li>Coconut oil<\/li>\n<li>Curry Leaves for Garnish<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>How to Cook Kalan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. Wash all the vegetables and cut into cubes, with about 2 inches thick.<\/p>\n<p>2. Combine the cumin and coconut and grind into paste. Don\u2019t add water. Set aside.<\/p>\n<p>3. In a frying pan, add some oil and fry the methi seed. Then, powdered the fried seeds and set aside.<\/p>\n<p>4. Dissolve the powdered pepper in half cup of water. Strain it with a clean cloth. Put in a skillet and stir in the vegetables together with salt and turmeric salt. Let it cook.<\/p>\n<p>5. Once the water dried up, add 1 teaspoon of ghee.<\/p>\n<p>6. Add the yogurt into the vegetables and mix well.<\/p>\n<p>7. Stir in fenugreek powder and coconut paste and let it simmer. Wait until the mixture becomes thick. Once cooked, remove it from the flame.<\/p>\n<p>8. In a pan, heat oil. Fry the mustard seeds into it and wait til it splutter. Add the chilies and curry leaves. Use this to garnish the gravy.<\/p>\n<p>9.
